Reposting my Myspace blog

I had a blog for a short time on Myspace, and a while back I was able to get on, and downloaded the postings. I have reposted them here, to keep as a record.

2/28/2008: Grandpa update

Grandpa Harris has a MRSA infection. They have him on IV antibiotics, and painkillers. He is out of it most of the time, and not eating well. Aunt Gail and Uncle Lynn are leaving for the Dominican Republic today, unless they decide to cancel at the last minute.

3/8/2008: Grandpa update

Grandpa's in the nursing home (600 Bates Rd, Rm 219). He was well enough to day to play Crazy 8's for an hour, which is a big step forward. Not getting out of bed anymore than he HAS to, but getting a little stronger and better each day. Almost everyday one or more of his friends from the Radio Club comes in to visit him. Hope everyone who reads this is well, and has sent their tax returns in, so they can get that $600 stimulus check from the gov't.

It’s hard to believe that one month ago dad went into the hospital. It really has been a month from hell. Dad is with mom now, and sadly missed by many people who loved him dearly. We’ve been working on the house nearly everyday since the funeral, and have made just the tiniest dent in it. There is so much to do. Scott is on break, and came over today and started taking paneling out of the one bedroom. Lynn and John pulled the carpeting out of one bedroom as well. Two more rooms of carpeting to go, and then a fresh coat of paint throughout. We are hoping to get it on the market in the next 3-6 weeks, when the buying market is hottest.

4/30/2008 - Who will solve the problems of the world?

Current mood:http://x.myspacecdn.com/images/blog/moods/iBrads/cold.gifsad
Dick and Marion stopped by yesterday, and Marion was saying how empty the airwaves seem without dad. How he would always be there when someone needed someone to "come back to them".  In a way, it speaks volumes about who my dad was. Someone who had friends, who was there for people, who cared. Someone who left their mark on at least a small portion of the world. Someone who hosted coffee clubs where they solved the problems of the world. Someone I miss very much.

May 29, 2008 - Things that make you sniffle

I got my $1000 letter from Excelsior today saying I was planning to graduate this summer.  Bob asked me if I was excited about it, or just tired of the whole thing and glad to have it over? I was surprised at how this is the one subject that can reduce me to tears every time. How much it really meant to me to finish this while dad was alive to see it. But I failed to accomplish that goal.

To Corey:

So we spent the night playing cards with Ralph & Vicky until the wee hours of the morning. As dawn was breaking, John and Ralph decided to go "hunting" -- so they spent the next few hours sitting under a tree in the patch of poison ivy. I headed to bed to catch a few hours of sleep. I woke up later with a backache, but totally convinced I was not in labor, despite all opinions to the contrary. I couldn't be in labor, this kid wasn't due for 10 more days!

Well, a few hours later, I had to admit I could be wrong, and around 3:00 PM we borrowed the Bell's pickup and headed into the Crawford County Hospital. The Matador was "drivable" but not entirely reliable since the accident I had had 10 days earlier. So much so that we decided to cancel our earlier plans to go up north to see Gordon Lightfoot that weekend. I didn't want to be in Robinson this weekend, especially since my OB was off, and Salesman the butcher was on call...

But I digress. We got to the hospital around 4, and the maternity nurse examed me, and asked me what names we had picked out. When I told her Crystan Meghan Heather, she laughed and said she didn't think my son would approve (what do you think Corey?). A boy? No way, I had been convinced forever that this was a sister for Adrienne, but nope-- once again I was wrong. Before I knew it, we were going to the delivery room, and Salesman sailed into the room just in time to see Corey born, but not soon enough to do any damage.

Happy Birthday, kiddo - we love you.
